Alison Grantham, interim director of research
Alison currently directs all aspects of the Institute’s soil-focused organic agriculture research program; including project design, development, implementation and reporting. She has worked in a variety of roles for the Institute including research manager, research and policy associate and research intern. Previously, Alison completed a thesis in soil ecology where she developed a calorespirometric method to quantify changes in soil microbial metabolic efficiency and their climate change implications at University of New Hampshire and the Harvard Forest. Also at Harvard Forest (Harvard’s LTER), Alison investigated the climate-relevant C dynamics associated with soil aggregate fractions of differently managed forest soils, and worked to quantify and model coarse woody debris decay. Alison holds a B.A. in Biological Sciences and Environmental Studies from Mount Holyoke College.
Elaine Macbeth, controller
Elaine manages the Institute’s budget, all aspects of the organization’s finances, internal controls and human resources for the organization. She has more than seventeen years experience in finance and significant expertise in not-for-profit accounting, She has professional experience in auditing, federal and non-federal grants administration, budgeting, financial management, federal regulations and human resources. She has a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting and Mathematics.
Rosalba Messina, interim CEO
Rosalba Messina is Principal and Founder of Messina Consulting Group, a management consulting firm that assists national and international non-profit organizations in fulfilling their mission by improving human and organizational capacity. Specializing in change management and human capital development, the firm’s services include comprehensive organizational assessments, leadership transitions, and board and staff development. In her roles as CEO, COO and consultant, Messina has successfully addressed the needs of organizations going through an executive transition. This will be Rosalba's second tenure with the Institute. She assisted with a previous transition in 2006-2007.
Jeff Moyer, farm manager
Jeff Moyer is an expert in organic crop production systems including weed management, cover crops, crop rotations, equipment modification and use, and facilities design. He has helped countless farmers make the transition from conventional, chemical-based farming to organic or sustainable methods. Throughout his more than 30 years at the Rodale Institute, Moyer has brought a farmer’s perspective and approach to issues in organic agriculture. He chairs the National Organic Standards Board, which assists the USDA Secretary of Agriculture in developing standards for materials to be used in organic production as well as advising on other aspects of implementing the National Organic Program.
Maya Rodale, director of communications and outreach
Maya Rodale has been appointed director of communications and outreach after working at the Institute in numerous capacities, from weeding in the gardens to organizing the first annual Organic Apple Festival. She has a B.A. from New York University and is also completing her master's degree in social thought from NYU. Maya Rodale is the great granddaughter of J.I. Rodale, founder of the Rodale Institute, and the daughter of Rodale Inc.'s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Maria Rodale.
Kim Schroeder, facilities manager
Kim manages the repairs, improvements and grounds-keeping at the Institute. She also administratively supports our CEO, farm director and accounting department and ensures behind-the-scenes mechanics are running smoothly for our on-farm events and field days.
Kim has worn many hats over the course of her 15 year tenure, starting as a temporary receptionist after leaving the banking industry and multi-tasking her way into a permanent place as a full-time member of the staff. She instantly fell in love with the farm, and continues to feel she is doing her part in making the world a better and healthier place to live by forwarding the mission of the Institute.
