Lobbyists trying to keep milk information from consumers

Genetic engineering giant Monsanto has been fighting a losing battle across the country trying to convince state legislators to disallow the labeling of milk as “RbGH free.” The initials stand for “recombinant growth hormone,” a Monsanto-invented artificial growth hormone that makes cows give more milk. It also burns them out faster, detractors of the growth hormone say, and may have detrimental health consequences to people who consume the milk. Now the case, brought on by the St. Louise-based Monsanto, is going before Missouri lawmakers.
