Organic food has more of what you want, less of what you don’t
Most people know organic food contains fewer pesticides (two main reasons it has any at all have to do with historic use of farmlands and overspray or drift from neighboring conventional fields). This summary of an original article published in Coronary and Diabetic Care in the UK gives you a number of other good reasons to go organic, including:
- Avoidance of genetically modified organisms (the jury is still out on their safety for humans and the environment).
- To reduce the amount of ingested food additives and colorings (many of which are known to have deleterious health effects).
- To boost the amount of beneficial vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and antioxidants consumed.
- To aid in protection against cancer, coronary heart disease (and other age-related illness), allergies and hyperactivity in children.
