Modern research confirms historic observations about organic farming strengths
What Western observers documented 80 years ago – robust health in an agrarian population without access to processed foods and the vitality of agriculture based on locally produced compost in India—is being increasingly explained by research in other parts of the world.
The Hunza people were amazingly healthy, reported Sir Robert McCarrison. He said their small fields were glacier-irrigated and that everything that originated from the soil was returned to the soil. Sir Albert Howard’s research in Indore with manure and compost produced health in crops and livestock he found astonishing.
This overview shows how contemporary research on specific aspects of agriculture and food show the potential for organic systems to be viable agriculturally while producing excellent quality food.
