I write with great interest in speaking with you regarding the sale of your WA farm. Yet, I before I ask any questions I would like to tell you about my family, as I believe that any endeavor that was given heart and soul needs to have an equally great replacement.

We are a family of four - well thirteen if you count the dog, cats and chickens. My name is Jason and I am the husband, father, toymaker, author, teacher, and urban farmer. My wife, Julia, is a public school teacher, urban gardner, author, and artist. We live a beautiful life in Ann Arbor, Michigan with our two girls, Eliah and Amelie, yet there is something clearly wrong - there is disconnection to the farm. Sure, our city lawn has been converted to a garden and our little house has become a homestead - but the missing piece, a very major missing piece is the connection to the land. The vast open farm fields of possibility, the close comforting silence of the forest and the dance of the prairie grass constantly visit us in our waking hours as well as our slumber. We are looking for opportunity that will bring us closer together as a family and allow us to create a home economy. While as a toymaker I can work almost anywhere we also realize that supplementing the household economy will take new adventures as well. Being a member of a local CSA has grounded us well and planted the entrepreneur seed of CSA ownership. In addition we have always been a resourceful family - from making our own kombucha to bread to candles to clothing to furniture to, well, whatever is needed. It is not in our nature to buy what we can make.

While we are both motivated and captivated by the possibility of a homestead farm we are also very aware of our financial limitations. We are and have always been a self-made family - surviving comfortably but not rich. We do not take from others what we cannot pay back. If our prose sounds interesting enough that you wish to move forward with proper introductions then you must first know that we come to this opportunity with everything except for the financial backing. We are "rebooting" our farming dream-machine yet another time with a new farm projected out for 2010/2011 not very far from here. II- Description/History

Foundation Farm was founded in 2006 as a USDA (US Dept. of Agriculture) certified organic farm, following 10 years of experimentation in various forms of organic vegetable growing methods. FF is located in Northwest Arkansas, 10 miles north of Eureka Springs and 50 miles east of a thriving urban area comprising Fayetteville (home of University of Arkansas), Springdale, Rogers and Bentonville. Immediately north of the farm is the state of Missouri.

Our bioregion is the Ozarks, with soft landscapes made of hills, pastures, woods (oaks and pines mostly) and good water (lakes, creeks, springs and ponds). FF is in climate zone 6 and gets around 40 inches of rain yearly. The frost-free growing season extends from April 15 to October 15 on average.

FF is set on a beautiful 10 acre open pasture, of which only five acres are dedicated to farming. The other 5 acres are available for a home, building(s), more farming or other activities. The farm is on county land (Carroll County).

Our immediate neighbors are Phil Wilson, a bee-keeper, who does not live on his land and Diane Weyer who lives in her home. There is no “problem” activity in the area such as chemical agriculture or “chicken houses”. The farm is 2 minutes away from a gas station and 5 minutes away from a supermarket. One of our friendly neighbors is Oak Hills Nursery which supplies a full line of vegetable and other plants seasonally.

Access to the farm is ¼ mile from the highway on a county-maintained road (CR 244). There is only one home before the farm and one beyond with very little traffic going by.

We are selling our herd of ranch raised working goats which we have been using for vegetation management and weed control. These are mostly Boer, many purebreds, up to several Fullbloods, down to a few half-blood Nubians. They are used to running with cattle, sheep, horses and are used to Electro-Netting or free range or herding.
