please help us accomplish our dream WE ARE NEEDING DONATED LAND

We have a breeding pair of heritage breed Missouri mule footed hogs, as of 2006 they were on the critically endangered species list, as of now there are waiting lists hundreds of people long who are wishing to buy these piglets. You can pasture six pigs on one acre of land. With one boar to twenty sows that means if we had access to ten acres of land we could reserve five acres of land for our organic 100% pasture fed hog breeding operation. So here is a little math for you with 10 sows each being bred three times a year and having between 4-6 piglets each litter and each piglet being sold for the price of 250 dollars that means that we would be making between 30,000 and 45000 dollars a year purely on piglets sold. (Now imagine if we had 20 acres to devote to our pigs) that combined with the money made from the other small ventures we plan on perusing (heirloom vegetables and starts for farmers market and local grocery stores, as well as eggs) would give us the income to allow us to live sustainably and pursue some of our more philanthropic ideas. Below is our mission statement we hope that you will take the time to read it and spread the news to all those you know may be able to help us get on our feet by either investing in or donating land or some of the other things on our wish list. We would also be willing to buy land available through owner financing or work trade. Thanks so much for taking the time to read and think about our proposition.

Our Mission Statement and Dream

Our mission is to provide our children and the children of the community with the knowledge and experience necessary to live a simple healthy life with food that will help them grow keeping their bodies free from pesticides and hormones. We hope to teach our children and the community at large that living simply and sustainably can bring you physical emotional and spiritual healing and growth. Our homestead will be a haven for those children who suffer from depression, substance abuse, and low self esteem it will provide them with an outlet where they can learn meaningful and healthy past times and hobbies that will help them gain self worth and confidence instilling in them a sense of community, family, loyalty, a strong work ethic and ultimately love. By example, we will teach of the importance of heritage breed animals and heirloom plants their unique and irreplaceable worth to agriculture as well as our world we will teach the importance of not loosing a single species because of poor stewardship and greed. Our farm will serve as a model of sustainable, organic agriculture & appropriate land stewardship. We will provide opportunities to participate in growing organic food, & fostering a sense of community, while working together & enjoying nature.
We plan to work as a team with local schools and programs to gather together those youth most in need of our help. While learning how to nurture healthy plants and animals, they will learn how to nurture their own health. Participating children will learn how to prepare the vegetables they have grown, make healthier food choices at home and school, and increase their physical activity. Our homestead will be open to all children who are interested in a fun, hands-on experience. After the farm is established we hope to sponsor school or group field trips at least 3 times during each growing season.
We also hope to educate adults by sponsoring interns that will stay with us and help out on the farm learning different techniques and skills that will aid them in beginning their own farms and bringing their own unique ideas and dreams into reality.
Not only do we wish to help the people of our community but we also have a desire to help the animals that will be on our farm. We believe that each animal has a purpose and a natural state in which they live when they are free from tampering. We hope to keep our animals in such a way that they will be happy healthy and carefree. Our goal is to keep our animals free from overcrowding and all the disease that comes with it. All of our pigs’ poultry and goats will be free range. Each animal fulfilling his purpose and working for us as we work for them.
Our land will be kept in tip top shape by using proper rotational patterns and reseeding we hope that our land will stay healthy, organic, and in working order for our children and our grandchildren. We take seriously the adage “a greedy farmer makes a poor farmers son”. And hope to be examples on how to be a good steward of the land.
We have this incredible dream that has been thoroughly thought out and researched we have the man power knowledge and work ethic to make it happen the only thing we lack is money for land and start up fees. This is where we hope that you can come in and help us make our dream into a reality.

Seeking $2.5 million for off-grid sustainable community

We have a business plan and a vision for a 100+ acre sustainable community that is 100% off-grid. This is not a 2012 doomsday commune but a community of like minded people that understand the global economy is in shambles. Our ancestors had the knowledge to live off the land but we have lost that in our fast food, 2 person income, money money money society.

The land is 100+ acres with multiple water sources that can be broken down into 5-10 acre parcels for ROI for the investment. Parcels can be sold with or without a green home or rented on long term leases.

Fully self sustained with solar and wind power. Some use of back up diesel generators (utilizing biodiesel).

Homes built green and energy efficient.

Farming, goats, chickens, rabbits, and wild game as food sources. 100% organic and non GMO.

Barter system with participants that bring diversified skills to the community.

School, library, bakery, workshop, and a gunsmith shop are just a few of the proposed community buildings.

Contact me for business plan or further questions.

Live-in Farm Help & Business Opportunity

I am located in Southern Virginia. I have a beautiful 30 acres farm that has lots of pastures, creek, barn, fruit and nut trees, gardens and a commercial grade 30 X 70 greenhouse fully hooked up. (needs new poly)

I am seeking a highly motivated individual or couple (no room for kids at this time-unless you have your own RV)that has longed to break into the farm business. This includes growing produce, raising hens, diary goats and more. You must have some growing experience because it's tough work and without hands on experience it would be tough to make it work. I am looking for someone to start ASAP and begin working and growing then preparing the greenhouse for year around production.

I offer room with internet, cable, electric along with a small cash stipend. I also will enter into a profit sharing agreement based on what you can produce. You would not need to handle any of the business end of things. I have a strong marketing and sales background and have been living rural for a long time. Whatever you can successfully produce I will sell.

In addition to the farm business you will provide lawncare & help with the animals & dogs. This alone is roughly 30 hours a week.

Based on your performance and motivation, your commitment to the whole project I would be willing to bonus you based on performance and that bonus money can be used towards a lease option agreement to purchase land or take over when I retire. The more involved you are the more commitment I will make. I am passionate about local food systems, the environment and animals. You should be too. I am also hoping to bring more people out here as soon as additional housing is available. I enjoy working within a small community of like minded people.

My long term goal is to produce enough food to open farm stands in my region. It could be very profitable for the right person.

When emailing me please don't state "I'm interested, tell me more." I've given you a general synopsis. Take a look at my farm, my you tube videos, whatever you need and approach me with a realistic business offer. I need to know what you've done, what you;re into, how you feel and what you can offer this project.

Thank you for your time.

Live-in Farm Help & Business Opportunity

Dear Tamara,

I am responding to the advertisement you recently posted on the Rodale Institute website. Honestly, having explored your website and watched your YouTube videos, I can’t begin to tell you how wonderful an opportunity this sounds like for me and how excited I am to be given a chance to work with you. Therefore, I will try to provide the information you requested without giving you my life story and hope that you agree I’m a good match for this position.
My name is Lindsey Page. I am twenty-nine and a native Texan, though I have spent significant amounts of time in other states. I currently live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I graduated from Colorado State University with a BA in Speech Communications in 2005. After which I accepted an administrative position with the American Red Cross in Dallas. Though I enjoyed my coworkers and felt good about the work we were doing, it became clear that being confined to an office all day would never fulfill me. After a year and a half with the A.R.C., I went back to my home town to figure out what to do next.
My first experience with gardening was in 2007, when an acquaintance (turned dear friend) mentioned he needed reliable help with his sustainable landscaping company. I jumped at the chance to work outside and guaranteed him I was a fast learner and a hard worker. I instantly fell in love with the work, which turned in to a two year crash course in all aspects of sustainable landscaping and urban food production from pest control and soil building to tree pruning and garden design. During these two years I worked part time for a local wholesale nursery gaining knowledge of propagation techniques and nursery management skills. In addition, I helped the facility maintain their many product display gardens, further honing the gardening techniques I was cultivating.
By 2009 I was longing for a change of scenery and a fresh perspective on my new found passion for all things related to sustainability and horticulture. I moved to Austin, TX and accepted a much sought after position with The Natural Gardener, a seven acre “destination nursery” founded by John Dromgoole. This ended up being an amazing education for me. I was surrounded by an eclectic and highly educated array of like minded individuals who were all excited about sharing their knowledge and experience. I spent much of my time there working with the public answering all variety of gardening questions, keeping plants healthy despite the Texas heat, and maintaining the awesome grounds of the nursery, which along with all of our display gardens was home to chickens, goats, and several cats.
While in Austin, I also worked seasonally with one of the nursery’s small growers assisting in the propagation of food and bedding plants and lived in an “intentional community” with a group of my coworkers and other like minded individuals. We shared the duties of caring for our chickens, ducks, dogs and cats and spent weekends working together in our large herb and vegetable gardens. Because of my ongoing desire to learn more about my chosen field, I attended classes in Landscape Design, Botany, and general Horticulture at the local junior college.
While happy with my position at the nursery and my home in Austin, I knew that I needed to grow further. My passion for teaching others the mental and physical benefits of being in nature and growing food led me to want to pursue a career in Horticulture Therapy.
In November, 2011 I was accepted to a program for Horticulture Therapy in Colorado, one of only six such programs in the nation. Ecstatic, I quit my job in Austin and moved home to North Texas to spend the holidays before I left to pursue my new path. In December I received a letter stating that half of the financial aid I had been expecting for the upcoming semester had been cut due to budget shortfalls. I did not have the other $6,000 necessary to attend. Though this realization was very disappointing at the time, in retrospect, it saved me from going in to $50,000 of debt.
This all leads to present day. I have been working as a designer and maintenance technician for an indoorscaping company in Dallas since January. We design, install, and maintain indoor plantscapes for office buildings, hotels, etc. While I enjoy using my design skills in a new way and learning more about tropical plant care, I am unfulfilled. I have volunteered with our local urban gardening cooperative and other such outlets, but it’s not enough. I want to work on a small farm and share with others the joy that comes from it. I have done extensive research on the internet and it seems that most positions available are either seasonal harvest positions with no opportunity for growth, managerial positions with large scale agriculture firms for which I am not qualified, or internships for students seeking college credit.
This is why an opportunity to work with your farm sounds so perfect. I am looking for a small scale farm where I can learn and grow and use my talent and passion to their fullest. Caring for the animals on your farm would be an added bonus that would only make me feel more at home. As far as what I can offer to you, I can guarantee hard work and a shared mission of growing things in a way that is respectful to the environment. I am excited about building gardens that create healthy ecosystems for all creatures as well as a bountiful harvest to share with my community. My desire for learning ensures new and creative approaches to building these systems. Your website said you are interested in eventually having workshops and seminars at the farm. My aspiration and experience in sharing the goodness of local and sustainable nutrition with others would make me a valuable asset to this endeavor. I truly love all animals and find I have a special relationship with canine friends.
Since I’ve written so extensively on what I’ve done, how I feel, and what I think I can offer to your project, I’ll just make a list of some things I’m in to other than the things you can deduce from earlier in this message and in no particular order: cooking, eating, reading, music, especially live music, sunshine, permaculture methods, wine, mountains, rivers, deep breaths, craft beers, stretching, oceans, friends, family, building things, making cheese, alternative medicine, alternative energy, bees, and biking.
I am very excited to speak with you, and I hope this message inspires you to consider me for the position on your farm. I am available to start exactly two weeks after I give word to my current employer.

Thank you,

Lindsey Page

We're a family with sweat equity

Greetings All,

My wife and I are looking for an opportunity to link up with an established organic farm to train on and eventually buy.
We have two young boys, 4/2.5 and we feel the time is now to move out of the city and away from the mess. We would love the opportunity to move to your farm, get the training needed to successfully operate all aspects of the business, and when you are ready to retire, we will take over the farm.
We both are beginning farmers, and would love an opportunity to buy a farm, as it has been a long time dream of ours.
We would like to settle somewhere in either Virginia or Oregon. If you have a farm, or know someone who does, we would love to hear from you.
Thank You for your time.

You have no way to contact you??

looking for organic farm experience in Florida

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for work on an organic farm in central Florida to gain more experience and to learn how an organic farm works. I have a year of experience working in an organic plant nursery but I would love to learn more!! I basically worked on starting from seed, transplanting, pruning, and plant maintenance. I would love the opportunity to learn as much as I can and even learn about livestock as well. I am currently studying Alternative Medicine. One day I would love to have my own sustainable organic farm in which I would grow food and medicine and also teach people on how wonderful organics and natural herbal medicine can be.

thanks for your time and hope to hear from people
Monica =)

Angela I have a farm in

Angela I have a farm in southern va that is already a business, not organic farm but could be very easily. There is a commercial grade greenhouse, barn, pastures, creek, fruit and nut trees, lots of pasture. It's also located in an area that I feel is highly marketable close to Raleigh NC, Greensboro, Richmond, Roanoke. It's a lovely farm with a 5 bedroom house. Beautiful landscaping, raised bed gardens and more.

Long term I am looking to sell and retire. I'd like to spend more time with my granddaughter. I would consider a lease option with a buy out and or a long term business partnership. My background is in marketing, sales and especially internet marketing. I could easily handle all sales. I'm just getting older and need to kick back some.

I am seeking a highly motivated couple that wants to move into sustainable agriculture and organic farming practices.

Please email me details and what you feel you bring to the table.

We are a 100 acre rustic homestead creating a sustainable organic farm and artist retreat in the hills of Vermont. This position may work as an apprenticeship for the right individual. We welcome seekers and good communicators. Please don't hesitate to call and ask questions even if you do have experience but question your own qualifications. Feel free to check us out at wwoofusa.com also.We are a homesteading adventure, a farm in the making. Last year was our second year of full time occupation on the homestead and our second season of our WWOOF & intern program. We love the community, the energy, the friendships and we always appreciate the contributions and enjoy the mentoring. Be sure to check our website and facebook pages of photos and comments. Community is part of why we are here.

We are hoping to hear from everyone who feels a connection from what you will find in this page. We are excited for another year of community and encourage you to get in touch. Please understand that living and working on a farm means that you will be involved in very hard work. Most of the tasks will be centered around garden work. You will have your hands in the dirt. You will be growing, caring for and harvesting vegetables and produce. It's a great learning opportunity but it requires commitment, focus and lots of energy. Dirt and sweat become a way of life. (Don't worry there are some nice swimming holes in the area.)

We are located on a dead end gravel road in southwest Vermont. We are situated on 100 acres of beautiful land that consists of a mixture of pastures and woods. The pastures are green, the woods are lush. In the beginning of spring, big juicy wild leeks known in the south as "ramps" grow like carpet on the lower slopes of the western ridge just over the brook and tasty wild Morel mushrooms hide in the forest mulch. Lots of blackberries and wild raspberries in summer. Walking/horseback riding trails lead from the pastures through forest and back again.

Goals & objectives this year have included a variety of gardening, animal & and development projects as well as daily chores involved with homesteading raw land into a working farm. This has been the 2nd serious year for the growing. We opened the farm up to CSA memberships last season. Plus we partnered with our local general store to have a vegetable stand in front 7 days a week all season long.

We have 2 llamas, a Belgian draft horse named Queenie, a handsome black Percheron named Avalon and 2 Oberhaslis dairy goats. Fiber is harvested from the llamas during summer at shearing time. We are training ourselves and the horses for working, riding and driving and the goats are pets for now though eventually we will likely breed and milk a small herd. We have some fruit trees and will be adding more. Existing wild apple trees make outstanding cider in the fall pressed from our antique cider press. Much more to show and tell you about. Very exciting and lots of fun starting from scratch.

We prefer to host long term stays, but we do welcome a limited number of short term interns also. We may consider year round hosting in the future depending on individual situation & skills. Housing is rustic. We live most of our lives outdoors here. Summer housing is tents. We can host a community of up to 8 individuals total. Currently there is limited electricity. We do have a land line telephone. Cell phones will work 1.5 miles from the property. There is no running water or indoor plumbing. A bath house is in the plans. Until it is constructed, it's the composting outhouse. An outdoor solar shower is available as the weather warms. There are 2 brooks on the property. Some summer meals are cooked over the camp fire although we do have a small kitchen cabin. Meals are yummy and healthy. We eat from the garden as well as local vendors and limited supermarket purchases. We're about creating and operating an environmentally conscious, organic farm and artist retreat that will be home to a variety of ongoing program that will include temporary visits for respite, creative inspiration & rejuvenation and participation in life skills and personal improvement workshops and educational opportunities. Here at the homestead we have rescued and harvested many buildings and building materials from a trip to the landfill, about 25 to date. A 44ft. cape house and 34ft. hip roof garage are among them. We have 14 sheds & small buildings erected, each serving different functions for the farm. The house & garage should be erected this year.

Wanted: Experienced Farmhand, Lancaster County, PA

Sweet Stem Farm

Hiring experienced farmhand. Position now available.

Who We Are: Sweet Stem Farm, www.sweetstemfarm.com, is a small sustainable farm near Ephrata, Pennsylvania specializing in humanely raised pork, beef, and lamb. We are a “high-touch” farm committed to giving an extra degree of care and attention to our animals. We have developed numerous innovative techniques for keeping our animals comfortable and productive on a very small land base.

We direct market everything we raise, mostly in and around Philadelphia. We sell our pork and lamb to several large customers including Whole Foods Market and hope to begin selling to Chipotle Mexican Grill in early 2012. We also sell directly to customers through an online store.

We have made appearances in Bon Appetit magazine and in the 2011 documentary “American Meat”, as well as being included in the PBS series e2, which features Michael Pollan, author of “The Omnivore's Dilemma” and “In Defense of Food”.

Summary: As our business evolves and our market grows, we've developed the need for seasoned farm help, ready to go to work with minimal training, particularly to help cover daily chores Fridays through Tuesdays. We are a “high-touch” farm, so you will work hands on with the pigs, sheep and cattle. If you are familiar with farm life, you know that daily duties will vary, but jobs include caring for our animals, pastures, crops, and maintaining and operating our facilities and equipment.

The person who fills this position will work closely with the farm owners, farm foreman, and interns to keep operations running smoothly, especially during the transitions from weekday to weekend routines. You need to be self-motivated, since there may not always be someone to direct everything you do.

This position is perfect for someone who likes to work hard and is interested in sustainable agriculture and passionate about animal welfare. Livestock experience is not required.

Starting wage: $15-18/hr. depending on your capabilities.

Time commitment: We are looking for someone that will be available every Friday through Tuesday. The animals don't stop needing care on weekends/holidays, so we need a high level of commitment. Farm life can mean variable hours on your workdays (approximately 5-18 hrs. depending on the season, but 8-12 hr. days are most common) and working in all kinds of weather. For most of the year (April through November), the work schedule will be 5 days a week but we will sometimes need extra days during the busiest weeks, such as during lambing season and intense phases of crop production. Lambing requires the most intensive time commitment for about 4 weeks in April and May.

There may also be weeks where the work is slower, especially from January through March. During the winter months we may only need help 4 days a week. In the slower parts of the year, Saturdays and Sundays are chores only. During the busy season, Sundays are usually chores only (except during lambing season).

Wednesdays and Thursdays will be your regular days off unless we need extra help.

During the busy season, and on busy days during the slow season, the long hours require a dedication to the job and a commitment to be here as long as needed. Outside interests must take a back seat to the farm's requirements.

Requirements/Responsibilities: This position requires a person that is dedicated to the daily rhythms, chores, and care of our animals. This means, in part, that we don't have a set schedule but work each day according to weather conditions and many other factors. Great attention is given to stockmanship, identifying potential problems before they happen, and working together as a team to creatively solve issues.

Experience with careful and efficient farm machinery operation are required for doing the farmhand job and for helping train the interns. We build a lot of our own livestock equipment and need someone with diverse carpentry and metal working skills to help build new equipment and modify existing equipment as needed. We also own and operate fairly old tractors (some over forty years old) and other machinery and need someone who can do regular maintenance and minor repairs. Once a good understanding of the farm routine is gained, the farmhand will help lead interns in completion of animal chores, field work and many other projects.

Daily Tasks (will include but are not limited to): Most days will include scraping manure, loading/feeding hay, checking water, making and checking pig feed, and bedding the animals. We practice rotational grazing and often need fences set up and taken down as we move animals from pasture to pasture. We also have a number of portable feeders and shelters that are moved regularly. You will need to be able to complete these tasks efficiently and safely, and guide interns in developing similar proficiency.

Ideally the right person will:
•Be detail and task oriented.

•Be accustomed to farming chores and be willing to work through busy seasons and slower seasons.

•Have a flexible schedule outside of work to accommodate variable hours as they change by season.

•Be organized, orderly, and help improve organizational systems, such as keeping tools and buildings neat and ready for use at any time.

•Have a general understanding and concern for animal care and welfare.

•Have some carpentry and mechanical skills.

•Have a lot of experience safely operating farm machinery of all kinds.

•Have a working knowledge of 12 volt electrical systems.

•Be naturally observant and pick up on the finer points of animal care and feeding, machinery, operation and maintenance.

•Be situationally aware, positive and self-motivated.

•Be able to lift at least 100 lbs. and be on your feet for long hours.

•Be capable of remembering or writing down detailed instructions.

•Be competent and willing to document tasks and use of time.

•Have a valid driver's license.

•Excel at taking initiative and getting routine things done without needing to re-discuss basic tasks.

•Seek direction and consult with us on non-routine tasks.

•Be interested in why we do things the way we do and help us refine our production practices while keeping in mind that we have tried a number of approaches and have in place a basic framework that we intend to stick with.

•Have interpersonal skills allowing you to work well with a variety of other people and take the lead when working with interns.

Let us know if you:
•Have a CDL

•Have a touch of perfectionism

Please send:

A description of your work experiences and why you want to join the farm. Also explain why you think you would be a good fit for the job. Reply to sweetstemfarm(at)gmail.com. If we are interested in giving you further consideration, we will send a questionnaire.

Looking for a organic farm job/internship

Hi my name is Jonathan and I am 24 years old. Most of the jobs that I have had have been non-fulfilling. In those jobs I was stuck indoors selling stuff I had no attachment to, or I was stuck in front of a computer all day. I have grown u with a grandfather that has always had a garden, in which I have helped him with as much as I can and I have had experience working on a farm one summer. It was a vegetable farm I picked just about every type of vegetable, I also chopped tobacco and helped bale hay. These experiences have been far more rewarding because I always feel a certain type of connection to the work I have done when my family eats what I was able to help grow and when I get to work with nature. I love to be outside, get dirty and work hard. I would love to have a farm job once again. I know that there would be a modest salary and that does not bother me. I also would not mind if it was less if it included room and board. I am willing to learn anything, although my experiences are mostly in vegetables I am willing to learn to take care of livestock. My email is jonathan.t.thompson@gmail.com Looking forward to hear from those that are interested.

Lease and transition farm to certified organic

We are entrpreneurs with 29 acres of plums and tangerines and we are interested in building a farm that reflects our values of social justice and advocacy. We have 29 acres of fully producing tangerines and plums.

We would like to partner with someone who can help us run the farm by tranisitioning to organic as we build the other philanthropic components of our buisness.

We are looking for someone(s) with experience and common interest in organic farming, clean food and social justice to lease the orchards and join us in building a fully sustainable farm in central california. The property is located in an enterprise zone so there are many opportunities to build the business.

We have a house on the property for rent if a family wants to live on the farm. It is a 3/2 and rents for $1500.00 mo. The house is very nice and the property has beautiful landscape and views of the sierra nevada mountain range, a big tree house, seasonal pond, creek, and a large ag building that we want to eventually put a usda kitchen in for large scale canning.

We are also interested in starting to do some beekeeping.

Let us know if you are interested. Peace. K & C

My name is Daiana, I am 22 years old, I am a Missionary from Puerto Rico ( My Family Is From SPAIN ) and the reason why I dare to send this message is because I have a dream, where the Lord talk me: “ Out there will be somebody who talk you this:I’m willing to talk about any ideas you might come up with even if you think they are crazy".

This is my story:
Since I was 5 years old I have this Dream to Create a Mission,in where I can help others (those who are in need and doesn't have some one who can help them) I want to open a program where I can help the single mothers, the men and women in need and re-open the Children’s Program that I and my Husband use to have before [We used to have a Children After School Program [ The Good Shepherd ] where we introduce Jesus and the bible to the Children Using Our Therapy Pets, this kids are from broken families who parents used drugs, are in Jail, or the parents abused them, so we rescue this kids from the streets so they don't get involved in Gangs, Drugs etc., we have 2 Ferrets,2 Geckos,1 Turtle, 2 dogs(He train this dogs as a therapy dogs for the kids and to bring them to the hospitals for the children to) ], when we lose the house we was renting due to the landlord couldn't afford the payments of the house any more and lost it, we have to found forster homes for some of them, right now we are staying in a hotel until April 15 at 10 am is the check out, and we will be at the street again.
You might think that I am just a young lady with a crazy idea, it might be for those who does not stop for a second and look around to see the true face of this life that we live like crazy, but I do, I do stop for a second my hurry life and see the true face of this life where there are people all around us that is dying of hunger every second, that doesn't have a roof over their heads etc.
What me and my husband Ray, who is a man with a lot of knowledge, Preparation and Intelligence [he is doing his Master in Ministry to be ordained as a Senior Missionary Pastor] , he is a committed Christian with a desire to help the poor, he has more than 8 years practical experience in sustainable agriculture production [hydroponic and regular, he has revolutionary ideas about new agricultural practices], a lot of experience teaching and supervising groups and individuals, [He is preparing this project for the past 8 years but because the lock of money and a car accident he had in 2008 and ended in a wheelchair, but the mercy of our Lord heals him,he can’t make this wonderful dream a reality], want to do is open a "Self Maintenance Mission Micro-Community Farm" where we can provide to who we calling "Students", a roof over their heads, a place to grow and learn how to recovery and work at the farm [12 Months], and when they come back to the real life, can be a model citizen, teach children in an after school program how to grow plants, sprouts, etc., take care of animals, and introduce them to the Lord at the same time, rescue them of the streets and gangs, help senior citizens who wants to participate and feel valuable to the community, help Volunteer Interships of different areas [Medical,Agriculture, Zootechnicians, etc.]

Hobby and Commercial Size Hydroponic Systems

I build and sell hydroponic systems for both the hobbyist and the commercial grower. I also use these systems to grow produce for my markets. Hobby systems start at $250 and are suitable for patios, balconies, rooftops, and greenhouses. Grow lettuce, herbs, radishes, beets, onions, kohlrabi, etc. in the easy to use system. Comes complete with everything you need to get started.

Commercial setups come in 10 foot expandable sections and can grow anywhere from 90 lettuces per section to 148 herbs, onions, and other small-rooted plants with a smaller spacing. In a greenhouse or other structure enjoy earlier production that will give you a boost at the market. No weeding and the quality and shelf-life of the produce is much higher than that of produce grown in the field. Hawaii 24 acres plus home and organic farm for sale.

Aloha,
Imagine being able to sell a parcel or two or three or more of these 24 Big Island of Hawaii acres to family members or friends and create a legal sustainable community of like minded folks and lower your overall cost. We are offering a wonderful property on Pohoiki Road in lower Puna in the sun belt region. Perfect rain and sun to grow everything. Five miles from Pahoa. 400 foot elevation. Five minutes from the ocean and seven minutes from the warm ponds (google puna pictures). Several public, charter, and private schools in the area. Skate park, county pool and surfing for the kids in Pahoa. We have been working on sustainable farming practices (organic and GMO free ) for eight years and have a good start but for the right people these 24 acres would offer a life time of opportunity. We have maintained only about four of the 24 acres at this point. We have planted about fifty fruit trees; several varieties of avocados, coffee, citrus, coffee, breadfruit, mac nut, mame sapote , fig, bananas, and more. Also over seventy construction grade timber bamboo nearly mature and fifty coco trees. Honey Bees, 700sf organic garden beds, rock walled herb garden. Rock wall wood burning sauna. large pond, 4000+ metal work shed with it's own independent solar system, H2O, stove, refrigerator, paloma water heater, bathroom and shower. A great sustainable community possibility. Also a newly built 2200 sf custom home. Granite counter tops, custom tiling throughout, Jacuzzi bathtub, bamboo floors, open beam design, 700sf ocean view deck. 100% off the grid except for we have view county H2O. Looking for persons to start organic gardens/orchards in Calif.

I have 20 acres in Clearlake Oaks CA which has never been farmed. It has off-grid solar power, well and irrigation systems. There is a very small cabin (to which I am willing to add some space) and legal well and septic system. I would like to find a person or persons interested in starting some organic gardens (food and flowers), maybe some orchards and ponds and creative landscaping. There would be no rent in return for maintaining the systems and starting the gardens and all. Your only expense would be for propane for the hot water heater and back up generator. This would be for two to five years. Please, contact me: sfalderson@yahoo.com if you are interested.

Seeking organization to operate farm

I have a 328 acre chemical free farm in northern Virginia, 70 miles west of Washington, DC. which has been lying fallow for 10 years. We had 100 head of beef cattle, 400 laying hens, a pick-your-own strawberry operation, market garden, small orchard and did educational classes for school children.
I am looking for an organization that can take over operations of the farm to produce food, as well as run educational and recreational activities.
I would be open to negotiating a long term lease of the property. It has rolling pastures with 75 acres of forest, frontage on a 5 acre lake and river, and a small pond below the house. There is a main farmhouse, barns and outbuildings, and a fenced off one acre garden. In recent years the farmhouse has been used as a vacation rental.

Farm Lease

Dear David,
Yes, it is still available. I didn't respond sooner because I rarely check the Rodale website. The best way to contact me is at the above e-mail.
I'm not necessarily looking for a non-profit, but I want an organization that can take on the operation of the farm including educational and recreational activities. Basically, this organization would recruit workers, arrange housing and pay me a lease fee.
For more pictures, contact me directly via email.

2012 Heritage Breeds Livestock Program Internship

The Accokeek Foundation Heritage Livestock Program
Summer Internship Program
2012 Position Announcement

Seeking Applicants for the 2012 Accokeek Foundation Heritage Livestock Program Internship

The Accokeek Foundation maintains heritage breeds of livestock and poultry. Many visitors appreciate the beauty of the farm animals without realizing their important role in farming systems. Over the centuries, domesticated animals have lived here with humans and have contributed to shaping this land as we see it today. At the Accokeek Foundation, we care for our farm animals in a way that enhances the health and stability of the natural and agricultural ecosystems of this special place. As we manage animals, we maintain open lands in an ecologically sound manner. Some of these heritage breeds are typical of the time and place that we represent at our National Colonial Farm, while others are breeds typical of the Colonial Era. Our livestock collection serves two purposes: the first is to provide authentic period breeds for interpretation at our National Colonial Farm (exhibit animals); and the second is to maintain living collections that protect and preserve the genetic diversity of our agricultural heritage (breeding animals). We have earned a distinguished reputation for our efforts in this endeavor, and it is important that our work with heritage breeds continues in a way that maintains and enhances this reputation. It also is imperative that we manage our livestock and land in a way that demonstrates the most humane and sustainable methods available.

General Internship Information:
•One internship will be available for the Summer 2012 season.
•Positions will run for three months, roughly from June-August.
•A stipend of $1000 per month and health insurance benefits will be offered.
•Applicants are encouraged to apply before April 15, 2012, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Please expect to be physically present for any interviews.
•Schedule will be Monday through Friday with occasional
pre-scheduled weekends required.

Apprenticeship Details:
•The internship program is designed for beginning farmers who have at least one season’s worth of experience and want to round out their training. Our goal is to expose interns to many experiences, techniques, and approaches to sustainable livestock management and heritage breeding while accomplishing the Foundation’s work.
•Interns will be engaged mainly in “land-based training,” in which they will participate in all aspects of our heritage livestock breeding program. This is an intensive program, and applicants can expect to work 40-55 hours a week in all weather conditions.
•Specific on-farm training includes: all aspects of livestock management (feeding, breeding, healthcare, animal training, working with oxen team, etc), tool and machinery operation and maintenance, record keeping, and more.
•In addition to the daily work, apprentices will have the benefit of formal training, including field trips to other farms in the area, participation in the Foundation’s workshops, and the ability to receive agricultural instruction from other institutions and individuals in the Chesapeake region.
•This position is designed for those with a serious desire to pursue farming as a way of life, and every effort will be made to provide professional support after the season is over. It should be noted that the work involved is challenging in many ways, and a strong emphasis is placed on safety and personal accountability.

Apprentice Qualifications:
•Applicants should have at least one to two seasons’ experience with livestock and a motivated desire to further this education.
•Applicants should be reliable and willing to take on and accept responsibility.
•The interns will be a part of the daily workings of the farm, and therefore should be physically capable and able to lift 50 lbs or more.
•Because we will be working very closely together at times, it is essential that the interns be capable of working well with others. The ideal candidate will also have well-developed problem solving skills.

25/male/los angeles guy wanting to live in commune/farm

I've long been tired of the craziness of city life and would much rather live a more peaceful, natureful life on a commune, sustainable community, etc. I unfortunately don't have money I could contribute, but if given food and a place to live, I would work very hard to become a useful member of the community. I live in Los Angeles and would love to find a place like I've described as close to here as possible, but I could possibly travel to a far away place (depending on how far).

Also, if someone in Los Angeles has already found such a place and will be traveling to move there sometime soon, I'd really appreciate if I could tag along. I'm an easygoing guy who wouldn't cause any trouble.

My email is takeonme86@ymail.com. Any helpful information is greatly appreciated!

Long Term Homesteading & Caretaking on Your Land

Submitted by Sunny & Sequoia.........
Sequoia and I have been homesteading and creating self- sufficient homesteads, from the ground up for most of our adult lives.... We are both master gardeners,Loving to create big, Beautiful, Abundant Gardens.... always growing way more than we can eat.....so we trade/sell and give away the abundance ....I guess we can't help growing soooo much food, after living and growing in large communities and having done the market garden/CSA scene.... now we are simply happy growing food for ourselves. Sequoia is also a practicioner of Homeopathy ..... and a small Dairy Goat Herds - woman... We have chickens for eggs, and raise rabbits free-range/colony, for organic meat and the dairy goats for Raw milk, Kefir, Yogurt, soft cheese and hard Cheddar. We have extra eggs and milk and cheese we sell and trade, which pays for the animal feed.... We also grow alot of root crops and greens for the animals. I have built many homes using natural materials gathered around me, such as: Cob, Strawbale, Rammed Earth, and underground Hobbit homes, Log cabins, Stone houses, tree houses and lots of Barns and Greenhouses, outdoor kitchens and root cellers....We have always lived on remote properties, Off Grid, ..... but that does not mean we went without power. I am experienced in the building and maintence of micro hydro and solar swstems.....I can build, repair or fix just about anything one might need, to keep a homestead going.... Together we are quite the team ....We Love what we Do .... and Do what we Love. We have a small life-long income and in the RIGHT situation we could contribute some money towards paying off some Land debt. We have both lived alot in intentional communities and cohousing communities..... so, we have learned how to live intimatly in a GOOD WAY with others.... we are naturally open Hearted , accepting , coopertive and Loving with people....we are open minded and have learned to let go of judgements as they arise .... we are not much interested in peoples' dramas that they create for themselves.... we Love to live a very Simple, Natural lifestyle... we bring alot of gifts with us and consider our presence on the land to be a gift.... because we Love to ENHANCE THE WEB OF LIFE, where ever we live. We are also very particular about where we live... In fact we are spoiled.... having lived in some of the most beautiful, pristine properties in the western states.... we are presently living on a very remote homestead in northern california, surrounded by national forest...... we are snowed in for months, during the winter. We would like to live LONG TERM, on some Beautiful property, that has year-round access... We want our long term Home to have clear, clean, abundant water, that can be gravity fed to our gardens and homesite. We would like the property to have some privacy from neighbors, not right on a road .... Quiet & Peaceful..... some trees and some open meadow, and being bordered by wild, natural land for walking and exploring would be great..... and some friendly, loving, land partners/stewards to be good neighbors and friends with..... in the co-creation of Heaven on Earth..... We would like to remain in the western states..... IF, you feel interested in us as possible Co-creators of your vision of a simple/natural, self-sufficient LIFE .... then feel free to E-mail us and tell us all about your family and your home and your dreams for the land ... and send some photos of yourselves and your land, gardens, etc...... and we will respond with the same ..... your brother and sister, In Love....... with Life, Sunny & Sequoia

Looking for an organic farm in TN farmer to train and buy

Greetings All,

My husband and I are looking for an opportunity to link up with an established organic farm to train on and eventually buy.
We are both Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans, and have been working with FarmVetCo. We would love the opportunity to move to your farm, get the training needed to successfully operate all aspects of the business, and when you are ready to retire, we will take over the farm.
We both are beginning farmers, and would love an opportunity to buy a farm, as it has been a long time dream of ours.
We would like to settle somewhere in south central/eastern TN. If you have a farm, or know someone who does, we would love to hear from you.
Thanks in advance!

I have the opportunity your seeking

STOP the GMOs! This CSA will feed and educate the community!

Our Vision is to work with our community and encourage member involvement in the farm that offers hands-on training about organic and heirloom gardening, while fostering an interest in self sustainable living that helps bring families together and supports a locally based food system, reducing the need for community members to source lesser quality and genetically modified food from grocery stores.

Our Mission is to grow and raise an essential (what most families need) variety of natural and organic vegetables, meat, and dairy products year round on a small family farm and to educate our surrounding communities in the traditions of a sustainable lifestyle.

According to the USDA, in 2009, 93% of soy, 93% of cotton, and 86% of corn grown in the U.S. were GMO. It is estimated that over 90% of canola grown is GMO. As a result, it is estimated that GMOs are now present in more than 80% of packaged products in the average U.S. grocery store. At this time, none of these products are required to be labeled as genetically modified.

In 30 other countries around the world, including Australia, Japan, and all of the countries in the European Union, there are significant restrictions or outright bans on the production of GMOs, because they are not considered proven safe. In the U.S. on the other hand, the FDA approved commercial production of GMOs based on studies conducted by the companies (Monsanto in most cases) who created them and profit from their sale.

There are no real studies of the effects of GMOs on humans but many studies on animals show many serious health issues even death. The best way to avoid GMOs is to choose organic. By law, organic products must be made and produced without the use of genetic engineering or modification.

In order to offer 150 to 200 families healthy food annually, the farm has a minimum requiremnet of 7 acres for vegetables. Requirements for rabbits, chickens, and goats, and including the home and other farm buildings will add 3 to 8 additional acres. Total land requirements for the CSA ar 10-15 acres.

Our first year of operation, we anticipate to be able to support 10 to 15 memberships. First year annual revenue is projected to be $10,000 to $20,000 depending on crop production. The revenue also depends on additional income from monthly classes, rabbits, and chick sales. We anticipate with enough acreage that we will be able to support a membership of 150 to 200 families when at full capacity. Annual membership dues should generate approximately $150,000 to $200,000.

After farm expenses, there should be a profit of between $50,000 and $80,000 annually. It should also be noted that a large portion of the investment of $500,000 we are seeking will go towards the purchase of the farm itself thus creating immediate equity / payback for the investor.

Having raised millions of capital for technology companies, established international joint ventures, and arranged payment for pre-production orders, I understand what investors are concerned about; risk and reward. This investment is no different. The investors risk is mitigated by two means. First, by purchasing the land that is necessary for this CSA to operate, and secondly by the CSA members pre paying their membership for the year. The CSA model shares the risk of crop production with it's members thus easing some of the typical business risk associated with production.

This buisness is not a fortune maker rather an investment in health, education, and the wellbeing of our communities. People need access to healthy food at reasonable prices. With the changes in society and in our economy, there has never been a more critical time or need for people to be educated on how to live a more sustainable life. Our intention with this CSA is to provide both of those needs.

Please contact me for a copy of our business plan.

Interested to be a co partner

I did my masters of science in horticulture. I have more than 10 years work experience in Organic farming home and abroad. I am indepedent organic certification inspector on farm cagegory with OCIA. I also training on IOIA organic farm inspector.I also experience in energy tree Jetroph cultivation which produce Biofuel. The jetropha production capacity grater than corn. Your CSA plan impressed me. My sugession is you should start your farm small scale basis and then apply for CSA grant to USDA. In second year you will approve your grand money and will start large scale production. As well we will start simultanously a jetropha plant nursery. We should make a triangular agreement with a university for research and development and energy commossion for jetroph promotion and production grant. Grant start at 2 million for production and 25 million for refinery. currently, its a thrust sector of US government policy. So we will work together and make your dream true.Let me send you complete proposal. If you like my concept the we will set up an formal meeting for furthur discussion.
