Action Alert: Weigh in to assert organic advantages against GMO crops

Opinions keep life interesting, but an op-ed in the April 11 of The Boston Globe’s went over the edge into outright disparagement of organic farming. "Green Thumbs: Genetically engineered crops are more environmentally friendly than organic ones" shows how the biotechnology industry’s advocates have abandoned scientific analysis in their haste to discredit farming that works with nature.

The writer asserts:

  • Organic farmers don’t trust science.
  • There’s no known harm to “man, beast, or the environment” from genetically engineered crops.
  • Organic farming, compared to GMO crops, produces less biodiversity, avoids pesticides less successfully, requires more land and water to produce the same amount of food and will result in clearing more forests, wetlands and wilderness.

Let The Boston Globe know your opinion on whether organic farming or a system that features GMO crops is the best for our world. You have 200 words.

Here’s a sample letter (WORD format or PDF) of about 193 words to use or personalize, keeping in mind these “Letter to the editor” instructions right from the Globe:
