Institute to join doctors, scientists, green entrepreneurs, farmers at April Greening the Community conference

Forward-looking  specialists in environmental health, sustainable systems, public medicine and food-based economic development will gather April 9 and 10 in Cleveland, Ohio, for a conference titled “Greening the Community: Green economy, organic environments and healthy people.”

Speaking will be Jeff Moyer, farm manager at the Rodale Institute, on organic farming potential and benefits; Warren Porter, PhD, pesticide impact researcher from the University of Wisconsin; Dorr Dearborn, MD, PhD, chair of the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at Case Western Reserve University; and beekeeper David Hackenberg, who sees a link between Colony Collapse Disorder and agricultural pesticides.

Jan Kasperski, CEO of the Ontario College of Family Physicians and backer of Ontario’s ban on 250 pesticides for cosmetic purposes; farmer-networker Peter McDermott of Local Food Cleveland; and William Mitsch, PhD, ecosystem ecologist, ecological engineer and co-laureate of the 2004 Stockholm Water Prize, will also be part of the mix.
