Survey shows 53% eat organic food, but 58% worried about GMO contamination
In a survey authorized by Consumer Reports, more respondents were worried about contamination of organic food by genetically modified substances than reported eating organic food products. A reported 58 percent were extremely, very, somewhat concerned about the potential contamination of organic by the GM crops and products. About 53 percent said they purchased organic.
Most likely to report they purchased organic were: residents of the West, 60 percent; people 18 to 34 years of age, also 60 percent; and women, 57 percent.
The telephone survey of 1,015 people has a sampling error of plus or minus 3.1 percent with a 95 percent confidence rate.
