Farm group joins in study of atrazine impact, Syngenta tactics

The Land Stewardship Project and the Pesticide Action Network North America have published the results of an in-depth examination into the human health and ecosystem problems of atrazine, and how its manufacturer has sought to suppress efforts to restrict its use.

“The Syngenta Corporation & Atrazine: The Cost to the Land, People & Democracy” is a 44-page report  published in January. Contributing their scientific expertise were Paul Wotzka and Tyrone Hayes, who, a note in the report says, “stood up to corporate interests and succeeded in making their scientific findings publicly known, despite efforts to obscure and undermine their work.”

Included are accounts of farmers managing weeds without using atrazine (a common herbicide in the Midwest) and recommendations calling for a transparent review process and a discounting of Syngenta studies due to their faulty nature in the past.
