Syria expanding organic agriculture, international market

Under a new FAO project, organic farming will be strengthened in Syria through development of production standards, certification systems, capacity building programs and educational campaigns. Consumers, farmers, agronomists, researchers and processors will be incorporated in the effort as awareness programs and techniques for increased production are pursued.

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s project, “Institutional Development of Organic Agriculture in Syria” shows market research revealing large potential for Syrian products in European, Arab and local markets.

Additionally, the creation of a non-profit organic farmers association will help connect farmers and protect their interests when engaging with the government, non-governmental organizations and international groups.
