U.S. government looking to ban use of antibiotics on livestock

The Obama administration has announced its intent to restrict the use of antibiotics on our nation’s livestock. Officials acknowledged the human health risks involved in routinely administering these drugs to livestock, a practice which has been shown to allow the development of bacteria resistant to treatment with these medications. 

Some farm operations use antibiotics to promote weight gain in healthy cattle.

The new legislation would call for veterinarian supervision and consent to use the antibiotics.
