SLIDESHOW: Living plants out-last, out-perform roof shingle
Plywood over 2x10 rafters, 12 inches on center, covered with a rubberized (EPDM) material is the foundation for this roof. The system is designed to support 60 lb. per square foot to accommodate a fully saturated living roof and up to 5 feet of snow and high wind.
Added over the EPDM membrane is a non–woven geotextile made from recycled polypropylene, which is covered with a multi-layered, polypropylene and acrylic blend drainage material. (These layers are visible here.)
