Rodale’s LaSalle featured in Huffington Post on USDA chief’s support for organics

Change in agriculture usually happens slowly, making the strong support for organics by USDA Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack hot news. Huffington Post blog writer Kerry Trueman queried Rodale Institute CEO Tim LaSalle on why the new sectary is so enthusiastic.

After granting that “…without healthy soil, we’re toast,” Trueman quotes LaSalle at length about the promise of organics to produce healthy food, what facts in the ground allow the Secretary to be confident in giving organics new credibility with the nation’s agricultural movers and shakers.

Hi Frank it is correct that usually it's organic farms are run by the pop and mom shops... there's a big resistance from herbicide companies though...

Large and Small Farms

I liked the article very much. But I had a question. I usually think of organic farms as small farms run by families to perhaps sell locally or to consume them selves.

Can all farms convert to an organic self replenishing method and still produce large amounts of food. I am not a farmer but I have seen some very large comercial farms in some states. That is why I asked the question.

I suppose an easier to answer question is can we convert to newer methods and still feed our selves.
