Former farmer now Stanford’s “farm educator”

Sarah Wiederkehr tried her hand at both agricultural research and farming in the past, but found her true niche in a hybrid position, as Stanford University’s first “farm educator.” She teaches classes, maintains the on-campus farm used for educational purposes and to supply the dining hall, and runs outreach projects. Her work is greatly enhanced and rewarded by student enthusiasm. Indeed, most of the university’s farm-focused programs have been driven by student demand and initiative.
