Nitrogen is not only a problem in waterways, but can be a component in potent greenhouse gases. The Chesapeake Bay has been ranked among the most polluted estuaries in the nation, largely due to nitrogen and phosphorous runoff from agricultural, industrial and individual activities. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation decided it was time to introduce its new nitrogen calculator, a tool to gauge personal pollution impact on the Chesapeake watershed. The calculator will soon be linked to the Chesapeake Fund, which will use private investment to tackle the pollution problem across the watershed.  Full story: The Chesapeake Bay Foundation
