“Sick as a pig” prompts review of livestock antibiotic use
The Soil Association and Compassion in World Farming have called for the Government to step in and take action to reduce the use of antibiotics in UK farming.
The call comes after an Ecologist Film Unit documentary 'Sick as a pig', commissioned by the Soil association and Compassion in World Farming, was released showing the rise of a new strain of MRSA in pigs in Europe. The use of farm antibiotics and its potential impact on human health also came under fire in Liam Donaldson, the UK's chief medical officer's annual report on the state of the nation's health last week.
