Honeybee die-offs may be linked to gene contamination, postulates Pennsylvania beekeeper
Beekeeper John McDonald, observing his own hives and collecting scientific data over time, theorized that honeybee die-offs over the past few years may be linked to contamination of a transgenic insecticide gene, Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), widely engineered into GMO corn. Proteins coded by the commonly used DNA segment have a sub-lethal, rather than lethal effect on the bees, thinks McDonald, which might jeopardize immune functioning and lead to gradual death. Further research and ample precautions in genetic technology could spell the future of these fragile pollinators, on which most of our food supply depends. Full story: Natural News
