A simple on-line tool can help farmers, agricultural organizations, public agencies and local food and economic development groups get a "first look" at potential markets at the county level. The U.S. Food Market Size Estimator is a project of the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture. Users can find the estimated demand for 204 food products in every county of the United States.
It uses data from the USDA Economic Research Service's Food Availability Data System coupled with US Census population figures. The project is part of the Leopold Center's Marketing and Food System Initiative, one of three program areas of the Center, designed to help farmers, marketers and government agencies develop good ag marketing opportunities and infrastructure.
