Crops could use a filter for salty groundwater and get a boost during drought
Researchers at The University of New South Wales are developing technology to use reverse-osmosis membranes to filter brackish and otherwise unusable water through subsurface drip irrigation systems. Such a development could potentially give growers the opportunity to use marginal or overly salty land without the added environmental impact of pumped irrigation. The soil gets the added benefit of desalination. Full Story: Environmental News Network
