Methodical soil testing on Rodale Institute’s Farming Systems Trial for more than 25 years documents the returns in soil organic matter that comes from annual investments through a crop rotation including cover crops. The organic plots have increased an average of 1,000 pounds of carbon per acre per year, while the recommended conventional treatments have resulted in less than 300 pounds per year increase.
