New food label refers to ecosystem biodiversity
The Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES) has created a new kind of label for foods. The “Healthy Grown” label includes more criteria than the organic label. Farms that produce healthy grown food will use “new land-management practices for the entire farm ecosystem, including non-crop lands,” according to the label criteria, which emphasize biodiversity and education. The new label also encourages farmers to use fewer chemicals and alternative pest control. Full story: USDA
