G8 nations heading toward ineffective climate statement

A G8 statement to be presented at next month’s summit is expected to be weak. Recent talks in Seoul among the major economic powers, other developed countries and the European Union were relatively unproductive. The United States also continues to be uncooperative and is reported to be unwilling to take large steps toward cutting emissions, especially if China and India do not agree to comply as well.
