Small farmers in Kenya worried about effects of GM crops

 

In 2004, the Kenya Small Scale Farmers Forum leaders signed the Thika Declaration on GMOs intended to protect farmers from GM crops that they felt would endanger their food security and create additional costs. The declaration condemns seed companies that would force farmer to buy new seeds every year and asserts that GMOs would hurt Kenya’s environment. Farmers then accused the ensuing Biosafety Bill of not being complete enough to protect the country from the threats posed by GMOs. Full story: Grain
