Tomato industry in peril

Florida’s tomato industry is in “complete collapse,” according to this Reuter’s news report, and if the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is unable to trace the cause of a recent Salmonella outbreak the $1.28 billion industry could be in peril. Already $40 million worth of produce already picked for shipping, or on the vine ready to pick, is destined for the compost pile. Full story
