Diet to revive a dying planet
“Organic ecological farming is the only way we will be able to address the ecological crisis related to farming, the agrarian crisis emerging from industrial globalized agriculture, and the public health crisis coming from using war chemicals to produce our food,” says social and agricultural activist Vandana Shiva in an interview on Living on Earth from November 2, 2007.
Dr. Shiva, interviewed by the show’s founder, Steve Curwood, outlines how an industrial approach to agriculture coupled with an export-oriented trade policy is damaging the world’s environment, our food-production capacity and human health. She says that place-based agriculture practiced by the world’s small farmers is the best way to provide enough food for millions of the world’s rural poor.
