G8 countries urged to reduce emissions by half

In a small but significant step, the environment ministers from the G8 nations asked their leaders to set a goal of halving emissions by the year 2050. However, they did not supply any intermediate targets for the countries, a step many feel is necessary to aid progress. One point of conflict exists between the G8 nations and countries that are rapidly becoming more industrial—such as China—over who should be first to cut their emissions.
