High fertilizer prices threatening farmers

The last year has seen a dramatic rise in the prices of fertilizers that may be preventing conventional farmers from meeting the world’s food demands. Meanwhile, outdated laws surrounding the sale of fertilizers are benefiting the companies that produce them. Major fertilizer companies blame the price increase on limited supply while president of the North Dakota Farmers Union, Robert Carlson, accused the companies of price gouging.
