Many debt-ridden Indian farmers turn to suicide

Debt-ridden Indian farmers bankrupted by a Green Revolution foisted upon them by the Western world are committing suicide with disturbing frequency, prompting an anthropologist familiar with village life in India to declare the situation one of the worst public-health crises since the country’s independence.  Ironically, some of these farmers are taking their own lives by ingesting the very chemicals sold to them on credit that they now find they cannot pay for.
