Blue is the new green

Adam Werbach, former president of the Sierra Club, calls for environmentalists to stop waving their green flags and broaden their reach in order to solve overwhelming problems like global warming. Werbach spoke at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco in early April proposing a set of solutions to the challenges environmentalism faces in the 21st century. He suggested that the key to environmental sustainability was really taking a step back and balancing the social, cultural, economic and environmental aspects of our lives. He calls this the "blue" movement and positions it as the optimistic, holistic "next step" to what has been a fairly pessimistic drive to rid the world of behaviors that negatively affect our environment. Werbach suggests that by inspiring instead of threatening the "consumer," more change will naturally take place on not only a personal level, but a global level. Full story
