While supermarket options have dwindled in New York City in the wake of rising rents, local government officials are getting creative about meeting citizens’ rising demand for fresh fruits and vegetables. Based on a successful Pennsylvania program, the $120 million Fresh Food Financing Initiative offers economic incentives for opening up shop and selling fresh produce in traditionally underserved areas.
