Drought in Australia helps fuel global rice shortage

Six tough years of drought in Australia have reduced that country’s rice crop by 98 percent and led to worldwide rice shortages. Rice prices have doubled and traditional exporters are keeping the coveted grain for themselves. Some scientists are pointing to the drought as the canary in the coal mine and one of the first significant indicators of the negative impact of global warming on food production. Full story

Everyone at my job is so very clueless. I have told them about this and they seem to think it is someone elses problem. When are people in America going to realize these things can and do happen here in these United States!? Maybe if we act now and act smartly we may be able to do something even just a little to correct our mistakes!
