Blogger touts new WIC guidelines

New guidelines for the federal WIC program are more in-line with, rather than diametrically opposed to, sound nutritional advice, according to a Daily Kos blogger who attended a recent California Food Summit. Under the new guidelines, infant formulas—which previously accounted for 38 percent of the WIC budget—have fallen into disfavor; more fruits, vegetables and whole grains are being encouraged; and there is more room for cultural preferences in diet.
