GM crops have no yield advantage

On the heels of a proclamation from the Britain’s Prime Minister that genetically engineered crops may be one of the solutions to world hunger, the Soil Association has released a report that shows GE crop yields equal or below those of the same none-GE crops over the past 10 years. According to Soil Association Policy Director Peter Melchett: "GM chemical companies constantly claim they have the answer to world hunger while selling products which have never led to overall increases in production, and which have sometimes decreased yields or even led to crop failures. As oil becomes scarcer and more expensive, we need to move away from oil dependent GM crops to producing food sustainably, using renewable energy, as is the case with organic farming."  Full story
