American songbirds silenced by banned pesticides

Here’s another good reason to choose local and organic: That out-of-season conventional fruit you’re eating may be the direct cause for the decimation of migratory songbirds. Pesticides and herbicides currently banned in the U.S. are fueling the production of food for export across Latin America, as well as the destruction of tens of millions of birds. Some blame export agriculture for the destruction of half of all songbirds, as bird habitat down South is transformed into agricultural land.
